A replacement bus service was operating for about three hours, until emergency services left the scene around 8pm.
Following the reopening of the line, Metro Trains said passengers could still expect delays of up to 10 minutes as the timetable recovered.
The person was hit just after 5pm near Overton and Wells road.
There were no passengers on the Long Island freight train involved in the incident, a Metro Train spokesperson said.
