Liberal Party candidate Roma Britnell and National Party candidate Michael Neoh have handed each other their second preferences.
The other nine candidates for the October 31 by-election are yet to distribute their how-to-vote cards.
The Liberal Party ticket has placed Country Party candidate Jim Doukas in third position, Australian Christians candidate Lillian Len in fourth spot and independent Liberal candidate Pete Smith in fifth place.
Independent candidate Roy Reekie, a former Labor candidate, gained a surprisingly high sixth placing from the Liberal Party while independent candidate Rod van de Hoef was given its last preference.
The National Party ticket was more formulaic with Mrs Britnell in second spot followed by a numerical donkey vote down the ticket.
Because the Liberal Party is almost a certainty to gain a place in the two-party preferred count, its preferences are largely symbolic.
However, Mr Neoh’s preferences may prove crucial if Mrs Britnell fails to gain an outright majority on by-election night.
