THE sun was shining and people rose to the occasion as the south-west enjoyed the first of warmer weather for this half of the year.
Bureau of Meteorology statistics from Warrnambool showed the mercury hit 28.6 degrees on Saturday and followed with 22.9 degrees on Sunday.
Crowds flocked to parks and beaches and enjoyed AFL grand final barbecues in their summer attire.
A small group at Lake Pertobe completed their weekly ritual of Laughter Yoga – they’ve been going strong for 10 years and enjoyed some beautiful weather on Saturday.
But it’s not all good news, as farmers watched crops and feed dry up over the especially warm weekend.
And the heat will continue, as residents expect a top of 34 degrees on Monday, followed by 29 degrees on Tuesday.
It could exceed the highest temperature recorded for October at Warrnambool Airport – the current record at 29.9 degrees on October 31, 1987.
There is some relief in sight – by Wednesday the mercury will drop to around 16 degrees and remain there across the region until the weekend, the bureau forecasts.
