Lewis broke from his celebrating teammates soon after the siren sounded to mark Hawthorn's historic grand final victory over West Coast Eagles. The star onballer made a beeline for his wife Lucy and son Freddie, who was born last weekend. After an embrace with Lucy, Lewis cradled Freddie in his arms and carried him back to the jubilant scenes that were continuing in the middle of the MCG. When the time came to accept his premiership medal, Lewis took Freddie with him to create a magical grand final moment.
Amongst the heaving crowd sharing the win with players after the game, Lewis took time out to reflect on the biggest week of his life.
“I took him out on the ground to enjoy it with him,” Lewis said. “We'll look back on photos in years to come and remember this time. He's only a week old but he's already got one premiership, he's pretty lucky.”
