Tragic story sensitively covered

I write to congratulate you and all at The Standard on winning best regional news story at the Rural Press Club of Victoria awards recently.

The Standard’s coverage of such a tragic event as the crash at Penshurst (November 13, 2011) was never sensational and handled with sensitivity, emotion and respect for the victims, their friends, and families and the local community.

The Standard also received awards for best general interest photograph and a highly commended in the same category.

My congratulations to both Steve Hynes and Vicky Hughson for their terrific achievements in this category.

These awards prove once again that The Standard continues to bring south-west residents the highest-quality local journalism as it has done for the past 140 years.

Once again my congratulations to all involved in winning these awards. Please pass on my best wishes to all in the newsroom who contributed to this success.
