A BABY has been hospitalised and two people were trapped for about an hour after a taxi collided with a hatchback south of Geelong.
The crash happened at Connewarre on the corner of Blackrock and Barwon Heads roads shortly before 5.30pm.
Victoria Police spokeswoman Kelly Yates said a female driver was travelling west on Blackrock Road when her silver Renault hatchback collided with the taxi at the intersection of Barwon Heads Road.
The hatchback became wedged between two trees and the woman was trapped for about an hour.
She was airlifted with head injuries to The Alfred hospital, where she remains in a critical but stable condition.
A one-year-old child, who was travelling in a baby capsule in the hatchback, didn't suffer any obvious injuries but was taken to Geelong Hospital for observation, Ms Yates said.
Ambulance Victoria spokesman John Mullen said the taxi struck a tree in the collision, trapping the male driver by the legs.
The taxi driver was also taken to Geelong Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Volunteers from South Barwon SES and CFA were involved in the rescue.
Barwon Heads Road is blocked to traffic in both directions.
Police have appealed for anyone who witnessed the collision to come forward.
Anyone with information is urged to call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333000.
