WARRNAMBOOL fast food and small businesses have been warned to be on the lookout for fake $50 notes after two were located in the city this week.
Warrnambool police Sergeant Chris Moloney said yesterday the two notes were found in the takings at the end of a day at a Warrnambool business.
"These were two photocopied $50 notes and they were of poor quality," he said.
"It is often the case that notes like these are passed with other notes to part-time or young staff members at milk bars, fast food outlets and other similar businesses."
Sergeant Moloney called on staff to be aware that fake $50 notes were circulating.
"This is very serious offending and if caught the offenders will be prosecuted to the full extent of the law," he said.
Anyone with information about the offending is requested to contact the Warrnambool police station or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
