Cricket Victoria selectors have named King in a Victoria Country under 19 squad to contest a selection tournament at Barooga from September 21 to 24.
The tournament will feature four sides – Victoria Country, Victoria Metro, an academy combined side and, for the first time, an academy invitational side made up of under 20s.
King, who represented Victoria at under 17 level in 2014, has crossed from Dennington to Victorian Premier Cricket outfit Prahan this season.
His last season in the Warrnambool and District Cricket Association yielded 559 runs at an average of 39.93 as an opening batsman.
The tally, which included six half-centuries, earned him selection in the team of the year.
King will be joined at Barooga by Angus Boyd, who plays with Hamilton and District Cricket Association club College. Boyd will play for the academy combined side.
Victoria Country coach Graeme Rummans said state selectors would finalise their two squads – Country and Metro – for national championships in late October. The championships are in Adelaide from November 30.
“The week in Barooga is a fantastic opportunity for all the players,” Rummans said.
“It’s a great lead-in to the season to play a full week of cricket in nice conditions.
“Both the Country and Metro squads have different strengths so we are confident that both teams will perform strongly in this series and the national championships in November.
“It’s exciting for Victorian cricket to have so many players exposed to this standard of competition.”
