The Standard called for reader feedback ahead of by-elections for the seats of South West Coast and Polwarth.
The by-elections come after Denis Napthine and Terry Mulder announced their respective retirements earlier this week.
An online poll of The Standard’s website users showed 39 per cent of responders backing the highway as the highest funding priority area for the south-west.
Stage two of the Warrnambool Base Hospital redevelopment received 18 per cent of the votes and a fourth daily V-Line train service between Warrnambool and Melbourne received 16 per cent.
About 10 per cent of responders say the Warrnambool harbour is most important while Reid Oval and Portland Bay School received three per cent apiece.
The remainder of voters provided alternative suggestions to The Standard’s shortlist.
These suggestions included: funding for all roads, a redevelopment of AquaZone or 50-metre undercover pool, upgrades to Warrnambool’s Liebig Street and the skate park, environment protection and a fast train between Warrnambool and Melbourne.
