Mrs Petrovich has thrown her hat into the ring for Liberal Party pre-selection in South West Coast, triggered by the retirement of former premier Denis Napthine on Monday.
The former upper house MP met with Warrnambool business leaders and Liberal Party members on Wednesday night and will travel across the region over the coming weeks.
The 51-year-old was Macedon Shire Ranges’ mayor before serving in the state Legislative Council from 2006 to 2013.
Mrs Petrovich was a high-profile Liberal Party candidate at the 2013 federal election when she contested the ultra-marginal McEwen constituency. She narrowly lost the contest to incumbent Labor MP Rob Mitchell.
Due to the Liberal Party’s state constitution, Mrs Petrovich could not give comments about her pre-selection candidacy ahead of the ballot later this month.
