Their newborn son Harley’s onesie read “Daddy, will you marry my mummy?”. Around his wrist was a ribbon looped through two engagement rings. Mr Richards eagerly said, “yes”.
Ms Matthews said she had been planning the proposal “for a couple of months”.
“I knew I wanted to marry him but we’ve had everything happen back-to-front more or less the whole time we’ve known each other,” she said.
Harley is the pair’s first baby together and the blended family’s seventh child – they each have three kids from previous relationships.
“My boys mean everything to me because we’ve had a rough time,” she said.
“But what Dave has done for all of them… Dave has changed our lives in every way,” she said.
Mr Richards said he had no inkling about his partner’s proposal plans.
“I’d been planning my own proposal in the back of my head for when things had settled down,” he laughed.
