Holt, 33, intends to take a break from football next season after standing down as Roos coach following their last-round triumph over South Warrnambool at Friendly Societies’ Park.
The Hampden interleague representative kicked a goal in the Roos’ 11.11 (77) to 7.14 (56) victory – a win which ensured they avoided the wooden spoon.
The Kangaroos finished with a 4-14 record – two victories less than the Roosters.
Holt crossed to Hamilton Kangaroos for the 2014 season after defecting from Portland, where he enjoyed a three-year stint as coach.
He said he cherished his time at both clubs.
“I played 180-odd games for Portland,” Holt said.
“I loved it there and all my mates play there.
“It was a big call for me to leave and especially playing against that side (the Tigers) was a little bit tricky for me.
“But, being honest, it’s funny how quickly you change allegiances.”
Holt, who is expecting his first child in November, said coaching the Kangaroos was fulfilling.
“I ride every bump with them,” he said of his players.
“And when guys have injuries, you feel for them, and when guys excel you take a lot of pleasure out of that too.”
The match also signalled the end of Nigel Kol’s time in charge at South Warrnambool.
Kol announced his decision to step aside at Roosters’ training on Thursday night.
