Russells Creek’s Liam Brown and Mortlake’s Lachlan Wareham will represent the state at Cricket Australia under 17 national championships in Brisbane in September and October.
They are part of a 13-member squad which will play eight one-day matches against Victoria Metro, other states and territories and an Australian under 16 outfit.
Victoria is sending two sides – Country and Metro – to the championships for the first time. All up, 29 Victorians will don the whites in the Queensland capital.
“It’s a huge positive for Victorian cricket that we have 29 kids exposed to state and national talent managers this year,” Victoria Country coach Matthew Elliott said.
“All the coaches were really impressed with the high quality of training and the two squads that we have put together.
“We started with two squads of 33 and 34 players and after five sessions at the MCG and Maribyrnong Sports Academy we reduced the squad for two trial games at Point Cook following that.
“We’ve got two strong bowling line-ups that will be well-suited to the Queensland conditions and we are really excited about watching them play.
“We also feel like we have two versatile batting line-ups that will be suited to the one-day format.”
