How are the preparations going for both games?
Dennington's senior side and A reserve have had good prepartions. Both games will be tough.
Old Collegians are very strong all over the court while the Timboon Demons’ A reserve side has been competitive all year.
There are no easy games when you play in the finals. Both our sides are not getting carried away.
We are just taking it one week at a time.
How many years have you been the senior netball coach at Dennington?
I'm in my second year as the senior coach.
This will be my last season as senior coach.
I've always believed in two-year stints.
I think it's good that the message is shared around - that way players don't get tired of listening to the same voice trying to put a different spin on the message.
I've found with family and work commitments it gets tougher to put the required time into being a coach.
I'm lucky that I've received great assistance since I've been in the role at Dennington.
The girls at Dennington are great and I've loved my time there but things are really busy in my job up at Southwest Healthcare where I'm the practice manager for the General Practitioners Clinic.
And we've purchased a hobby farm out at Winslow so that will occupy a lot of my time in the future.
I will not be lost to netball as Dennington as my daughter Zoe is playing there.
Sue, when did you move to Warrnambool?
I moved to Warrnambool in 2000 to take up a job at Southwest Healthcare.
I've been very lucky to have worked my work through different jobs at the hospital to my current job as the practice manager of the clinic.
The clinic has been open for three years.
We're getting more and more patients into the facility which takes a lot of pressure off the emergency department at the hospital.
Was playing netball high on your agenda when you moved to Warrnambool?
Yes. I've always loved my netball. I suppose my love for the sport comes from my mum.
I started playing netball when I was five years old with Glenthompson so I've been playing the game for 36 years.
Mum coached at Glenthompson for many years.
I've got no idea how many games of netball that I've played during my career as I've played a lot of night games for various sides in midweek competitions as well.
I played and coached in various sides up at South Warrnambool. My netball career nearly ended in 2010.
Sue, can you elaborate why your netball career was nearly over in 2010?
Tim, that's fine. I received an accidental elbow to my right eye in a game.
The knock injured the retina at the back of my eyeball.
The doctors were worried I was going to lose the sight in the eye but they fixed things up.
It was found that I had a tear at the back of the eye and a piece of tissue was flapping around.
It's like I've got an eyelash in my eye.
I sort of see a black line.
Doctor Vincent Lee did an amazing job with eye surgery.
Dr Lee said my brain will teach the eye to look past the the disturbance.
His summing up of the injury was correct.
Did you suffer headaches with the injury?
Yes. I used to get headaches.
My eye was cloudy for about six weeks before it improved.
To be honest with you it was frightening as I never knew if I would see through my right eye again.
I found I used to get very tired but all that has passed now.
Sue, how did you get involved in netball again after the injury?
It took me a couple of years.
It was back in 2012.
My friend Josie Bolden was coaching out at Dennington and I knew she was short of players she just asked if I wanted a game.
I put my hand up as I had missed playing netball.
I'm glad I came back and I found the injury to my eye often happened to netballers or footballers after they copped an elbow in the eye.
Have you suffered any other injuries in your netball career?
I ruptured my left achilles when I was playing for Dennington against Merrivale in the 2012 grand final.
We ended up getting beat which made the injury worse to bear.
I ended up missing the 2013 season as it took the injury a while to heal.
My first year as coach at Dennington was in 2014.
We were knocked out of the finals by Kolora-Noorat in the (Warrnambool and District league) preliminary final.
Sue, you've had a long and distinguished netball career.
Who are some of the best netballers that you've seen play?
Tim, great question.
I've been fortunate to have seen some amazing netballers during my career.
The question is tough to answer as I'll end up leaving so many top netballers out.
I've always thought Megan Titmus was a great player.
Jacqui Bowman was another great player.
I always admired a woman called Pauline Emerson.
I played against Pauline in the old Mininera league. She was a very good player.
