League officials on Monday confirmed Leura Oval would stage the under 16 and under 14 football and netball deciders on Sunday.
Cobden takes on Warrnambool in the under 16 football, while South Warrnambool meets North Warrnambool Eagles in the under 14 football.
In the netball, Warrnambool plays North Warrnambool Eagles in the 16 and under fixture and Cobden faces Koroit in the 14 and under match.
The decision to use Leura Oval came amid a myriad of factors which made settling on a venue a tricky decision.
Five grounds – Friendly Societies’ Park, Terang Recreation Reserve, Bushfield Recreation Reserve, Victoria Park and Cobden Recreation Reserve – were deemed unavailable due to hosting senior matches on Saturday.
Reid Oval would have given Warrnambool a home-ground advantage. That left Leura Oval and Port Fairy’s Gardens Oval as viable options for the deciders.
“We try to share the venues and give the host club an opportunity to showcase their facilities,” Hampden league president Hugh Worrall said.
“Over the past few years there have been a lot of junior finals played in Warrnambool and other teams have had to travel.”
Meanwhile, week two of the Warrnambool and District league finals will be at Allansford Recreation Reserve and Merrivale Recreation Reserve. Allansford will host the second semi-final on Saturday while all roads lead to Merrivale for the first semi-final on Sunday.
