Now she wants to help reignite interest in the sport in Warrnambool.
Touch Football Victoria will launch a mixed social competition at Deakin University in September in the hope it will lead to something more permanent on the south-west sporting landscape.
Fitzpatrick moved to Port Fairy with her partner Riordan Bell at the start of the year.
Both played the sport in Melbourne while at university.
Fitzpatrick said it catered for players of different experience levels.
"In Melbourne there is a really good social vibe around touch football and a competitive side too with uni games,” she said.
Touch Football Victoria will launch its five-week Warrnambool-based social competition on September 7.
Fitzpatrick is hopeful of attracting ample interest to get the project off the ground.
She said a they needed a minimum of four teams – “the more the merrier”.
Teams will consist of 12 players and games will run for 40 minutes.
"It is only a five-week thing,” she said.
“It is not a big commitment and we purposefully started it when football and netball finishes up so we get people who want to keep up fitness levels during the off-season.
"It's a great game for fitness because you are constantly running.”
Fitzpatrick and Bell are excited about the prospect of bringing touch rugby back to Warrnambool.
“We moved from Melbourne at the start of this year to Port Fairy and we're both very keen touch rugby players and wanted to get a competition up and going again,” she said.
"Touch Football Victoria has done the majority of the organising and we are helping out when we can.
“We've met with Deakin University and they seem keen to get involved.”
Fitzpatrick, 25, said she was eager to help touch football find its niche in Warrnambool.
The prospect of expanding the competitions and playing tournaments is also on the agenda.
"There is a quite a strong competition in Portland and we are getting help from them as well,” she said.
“It'd be good to get a bit of a Portland-Warrnambool touch friendship going, and maybe a bit of a rivalry.”
