Last week the Bloods drew with premiership favourite Hamilton Kangaroos and on Saturday at Mortlake they went down to Camperdown 40-39 in a thriller. But despite these two admirable losses the Bloods have tumbled from third on the ladder all the way down to sixth with two rounds remaining. Koroit, Camperdown and South Warrnambool are two points clear of Terang Mortlake.

The price of winning and losing is a high one in such an even season and for Camperdown coach Leah Sinnott  this week it is her team that is smiling.

“We knew going into the game it would be close,” Sinnott said.

“We didn’t play our best netball, we threw the ball away a bit and we made a lot of errors but it was one of those games where you had to keep chipping away. There was a lot on the line and I think the pressure both teams applied contributed to the errors that were made.” 

The game was an intense affair from start to finish with the Magpies leading by one goal at quarter-time. They extended that to two at half-time before the Bloods pinched one back at the final break. In a tense last quarter Camperdown had control of the ball heading into the last minute and were intent on defending a one goal lead. The Bloods won the ball back in the dying seconds but didn’t have enough time to get it to their attacking end of the court. Wing defence Emily Stephens was the Magpies best player while for the Bloods coach Aimee Arundell was the star.
