Kenna booted three goals and was best afield as the Power extended their Warrnambool and District league winning streak to five at Timboon Recreation Reserve.
They kicked 10 goals to one in the first half en route to winning 18.13 (121) to 5.4 (34). Mark Clissold, Joe O’Sullivan and Scott Judd also finished with three goals.
Power coach Danny Finn said Kenna had impressed in his two senior matches this season after a delayed start.
“He had a new dairy happening and a baby, he said he’d be a late starter,” Finn said.
“He didn’t really put a time on it. Then he said he’d struggle (to play) then he changed his mind. About six weeks ago he committed.
“He played two or three in the reserves and the last two in the seniors. He was outstanding today, he marked everything, he made multiple leads as a key forward, he was clearly our best player.”
The return of Kenna and key defender Patrick Moloney has given Finn welcome selection headaches with finals approaching. Paul McSween and Martin Wynd – key attacking in the seniors early in the campaign – played reserves on the weekend.
Ruckman Matt Fidge is also sidelined and could also find it tough to work his way into the side. Jake Richardson featured in the Power’s best for the fifth time in six weeks on Saturday and Finn said his preference was to play one ruckman.
“We’ve got Paddy Moloney who can go in there and so can Mitch Elford,” he said.
Finn said he was pleased with how the Power got the match on their terms early. They had five goals to quarter-time, 10 to half-time and led by 67 points at the last break.
Judd, Richardson, O’Sullivan brothers Joe and George and Jono Gleeson joined Kenna as among their best players.
“We started well and then Timboon applied a fair bit of pressure, they were okay. We’ve been in pretty red-hot form. We weren’t at the level we have been over the last month but it was a really good win,” Finn said.
The Demons had five individual goalkickers while defender Sam Newey was their best player. Brendan Hickey and brothers Ash and Tom Hunt were also prominent.
