The Bombers take on Old Collegians at Davidson Oval on Saturday as part of Warrnambool and District league round 16 action.
Butters said he was keen for his men to put their best foot forward against a rival with finals ambitions, but with the bigger picture in mind.
Winless Deakin University – a side the Bombers beat in round six – await seven days later. The encounter represents a major chance for them to post a third win.
“I have mentioned that, we need to start getting a bit more consistency back in our game knowing we’ve got a very important game coming up,” he said.
“It’s important to get another win on the board. We set a goal for so many wins, we’ve spoken about trying to achieve that as well.”
Butters said the Bombers took positives out of their 82-point defeat to Dennington last round. They kept the Dogs to seven goals by three-quarter-time and 14.15 (99) for the match.
“We broke it down to quarter by quarter and gave ourselves a score out of four for each quarter,” Butters said.
“We wanted to get to eight, which would’ve been a pass mark. We got eight out of 16.
“To keep them under 100 points was a good thing and Darcy (Lewis) said after the game they took a state on forced turnovers, they had 42. That proved we did put pressure on the ball carrier a lot better than the previous week.”
East Warrnambool made five changes at the selection table, with veteran Ben Gray set to return after eight weeks on the sidelines. Gray suffered a broken jaw and fractured eye socket in a horrific friendly fire collision against Nirranda.
Jacob Taylor and Troy Nicholas are also back, although Luke Rudland-Castles, Peter Shepherd and Simon Tindall are among the omissions.
