Warrnambool Athletics Club will host its annual charity event on Saturday, which doubles as round eight of their winter series.
The five-kilometre bunch-start run starts and finishes at Flagstaff Hill. The course follows Merri Street to the Flume car park, where runners link up with the Lady Bay foreshore promenade.
They follow the promenade to the breakwater pavilion, complete a second u-turn and exit at McGennan’s car park onto Pertobe Road, which takes them back to Flagstaff Hill.
WAC president John Keats hoped the club could raise $1000 for Camp Quality, an organisation which supports children battling cancer.
“We welcome everybody,” he said.
“Our charity runs in the past have been well received. It’d be great to see people get out in the cold on Sunday morning and run for Camp Quality. They do a fantastic job for kids with cancer.
“I believe Camp Quality has a couple of units in Warrnambool at the caravan park for young people to stay on holidays. We’d like to support them for the work they do.”
Previous charity events have raised money for Peter’s Project Foundation and Leila Rose Foundation.
“We generally raise $1000 for each charity, which is great. It’s a wonderful thing,” Keats said.
“We do have a serious side to our club, our runners try to beat their times and other people. But it’s great to do something like this as well.
“I’ve put a challenge out to all our members to bring someone along who isn’t a member. If we can do that, we’d be on track to hand over a big cheque.”
The event starts at 9am, with registrations taken from 8.15am.
