The Lions travel to Panmure Recreation Reserve on Saturday for the first of three tests which will determine their Warrnambool and District league fate
Their equation is simple: Three wins and an Old Collegians loss will lift them into the five. Any defeat on their behalf will spell an end to their hopes.
“Our game plan has started to become second nature, our work ethic and enthusiasm and endeavour are there,” coach Nathan Isles said. “It’s just getting the basics right, getting the skill level right, getting the balance right if it does rain, and doing that consistently.
“We know it’s going to be a close game, we know they’re going to come to play, we know the conditions will keep things tight. If we can be consistent and do the basics well we’ll have a big chance.”
The Lions’ bid for victory received a boost on Thursday night, with confirmation Nathan Krepp would play for the first time since round nine. Jake Bacon and Matt Wood are also back, although Nathan Murphy will miss with a back complaint. The Bulldogs added Louis Kew for Will Duffus.
“We know we can match Panmure in the wet but out there it’ll be a different story, especially with (David) Haynes in the side,” Isles said. “We just need to win all three. If we can win all three, we know we then deserve fifth spot.”
