She was taken to hospital in an ambulance from where she was found in Maiden Gully, an urban area about 13 kilometres from the heavy bushland near Bendigo where she had last been seen.
A local man in his 30s is currently assisting police with their inquiries, and a crime scene has been set up.
"They were just out on patrol," Police Superintendent Mick West told reporters at the scene.
"There was a snippet of information that came in that turned out to be very fortuitous this afternoon.
"There were a couple of clues if you like – we were looking for a particular colour vehicle."
A call from a member of the public tipped off police about the colour of the car they were looking for, Superintendent West said.
The man was picked up by police in the "very close vicinity" of where the woman was found.
The woman, 18, was found just as searchers were about to call off the search for the night.
