Food Share moved to a new warehouse in May and executive officer Dedy Friebe said the grant from the WDEA Charitable Trust was helping fit out the new space.
“What it has meant for Food Share is that now we have a full kit of warehouse equipment that enables us to operate more efficiently, safely and hygienically,” Mr Friebe said.
“We’ve bought five new mobile shelves, we’ve got a range of safety mats on the floor, cupboards, wardrobes, as well as the shelving and we were able to buy a pallet jack.”
WDEA chief executive officer Mick White said the organisation was proud to support Food Share.
“It’s the sort of thing our charitable trust really looks to support,” he said.
“Sadly Food Share is something that’s growing in need but, as Dedy says, the more people who can come on board the more it can be looked at as a very positive thing in the community.”
Mr Friebe said Food Share was now gearing up for its August appeal month and Food Share week from August 16-22.
Donation jars have already been placed around Warrnambool and wheelie bins will also be placed around central places for donations of tinned food.
