A WARRNAMBOOL father who broke bones in every limb of his 10-week-old son's body, as well as multiple ribs, will be jailed on Wednesday.
Jarrad Ryan Chittenden, 32, pleaded guilty in the Warrnambool Magistrates Court on Tuesday to six counts of recklessly causing serious injury.
He was remanded in custody overnight, will be assessed for a corrections order and imprisoned.
On March 11 Chittenden’s baby boy was taken to Warrnambool Base Hospital with a broken left upper arm.
An examination revealed fractures to both arms, both legs and multiple ribs.
Police arrested Chittenden, who told officers his son may have suffered a broken arm when he was changing him and his arm got caught.
A week later Chittenden told his wife he caused the other injuries, the court heard.
He said some fractures may have been suffered when he pulled his son’s clothing roughly and his son’s limbs were pulled back at awkward angles.
The baby's multiple rib injuries were caused when Chittenden held his son in both hands and squeezed his chest hard for between 10 and 20 seconds in an attempt to settle him.
Chittenden said he was highly frustrated, couldn’t cope and felt he hadn’t bonded with his son.
Defence counsel Rahmin de Kretser said his client was ashamed of his conduct and had written a letter of apology to his wife and family.
Chittenden said he was wrong to take out his frustrations on his son and he was sorry for the pain and suffering caused to all involved.
Mr de Krester said his client had no prior offences and the baby had recovered, but Chittenden would be forever known as the man who injured his baby son.
