The city council has been awarded $10,000 in funding for a project titled Memory In Motion: The Lost Art of Christmas Revived.
The project aims to bring back the lost art of the Christmas window display by installing contemporary modern works and historic dioramas in the vacant shops in Warrnambool’s CBD.
Warrnambool Art Gallery curator of exhibitions and outreach Gareth Colliton said the new Christmas displays harked back to the festive window dressings Warrnambool artist Henk de Kok did for Swinton’s many years ago.
Colliton said part of an old de Kok display and some Super 8 footage had been found, and it was hoped they would be shown alongside modern works.
The new pieces will be put together by a team of artists, who will be appointed later this year and take part in community consultation sessions and workshops.
