People have until Monday to nominate someone they admire in four award categories: Australian of the Year, Senior Australian of the Year (65 years and over), Young Australian of the Year (16 to 30 years), and Australia’s Local Hero.
More than 1600 individuals have already been nominated by members of the public.
National Australia Day Council chief executive Jeremy Lasek said nominees could be someone from a rural town whose contributions were the heart of the community, or a next door neighbour who had spent a lifetime giving to others.
“There are thousands of Australians worthy of recognition, but someone needs to submit a nomination for them before we can honour them in the Australian of the Year awards,” he said.
