THERE was an increase in lamb supply to 5125 head and also a lift in sheep numbers to 2654 head at Hamilton.

It was a better quality yarding of lambs, mainly medium trade weights with more finish in an overall mixed penning.
The sheep had some good drafts of crossbred ewes and Merino wethers among a plainer selection.
More buyers attended although not all were operating at times.
There were also an extra domestic processor and a restocker from Ballarat, which created more competition on light weight and light trade 2 score lambs during the sale.
The restockers, including some local activity, paid $32 to $110 as they sold firm to $2/head dearer.
Medium trade and heavy trade weight lambs sold from unchanged to $3 up to $6/head cheaper at times in a fluctuating market.
Sheep prices were cheaper by $5 to $10/head, mainly affecting light weight mutton and heavy crossbred ewes.
Merino wethers 3 score in the medium weight were unchanged.
Light trade 2 and 3 score lambs sold from $79 to $111/head, averaging 600c/kg cwt.
Medium trade weight 3 score lambs sold from $115 to $135, with heavier drafts selling between $138 and $163/head ranging in price from 580c to 590c/kg cwt. The top pen of lambs sold for $188/head estimated at 32kg cwt.
Prices for light 1 score sheep sold from $23 to $48 with the light weight 2 scores selling between $58 to $75/head.
Medium mutton 2 and 3 score sold from $74 to $99/head as they ranged in price from 330c to 390c/kg cwt.
Heavy 3 to 4 score sheep sold from $85 to $120 and the best Merino wethers made from $82 to $95/head to average an estimated 400c/kg cwt.
The better rams sold from $50 to $70/head.
