The 12-week hospitality program, funded by the WDEA Charitable Trust, will help 12 clients achieve their food handlers’ certificate.
Hamilton chef Tony McGillivray will teach classes on nutritional information and how to prepare quick and healthy meals and snacks. STAY CEO Maree Sandford said the program would prepare clients for work in the hospitality industry, while developing their nutritional knowledge and food preparation skills.
“It will also create social inclusion,” Ms Sandford said.
“An experience such as cooking builds friendships and encourages teamwork and co-operation.
“Many of our clients have limited experience in food preparation and find the idea of cooking overwhelming.
“We are very pleased that the WDEA Charitable Trust has recognised the value of this program.”
