Kapour showed his best intentional form winning the Winter Cup at Rosehill on June 27 at his fifth Australian start for Maher.
"Kapour is in excellent order after his Winter Cup win," he said. "We left him up in Sydney following the win at Rosehill with the Grafton Cup in mind.
“I was really impressed with his win in the Winter Cup. He's only had the five runs for us and is now starting to run in suitable distance races."
Maher said he could see similarities between his 2013 Grafton Cup winner Mr O'Ceirin and Kapour.
"Kapour and Mr O'Ceirin are on pace runners. I'm expecting Kapour to take up a forward position from his barrier,” he said.
“I think he's better suited to a surface which has a bit of give in it but on the other hand he's getting out in distance which suits. Kerrin McEvoy rides Kapour today which is a real advantage because he rode the horse so well in the Winter Cup.
“Kerrin is having a great run for the stable as he won two group one races on Srikandi last month for the stable. I hope the good run continues in the Grafton Cup."
Kapour is quoted as the $3.50 favourite in early betting markets for the race. The field also includes 2013 Warrnambool Cup winner Banca Mo.
