The Buninyong teenager took up golf in February.
Five months later she’s chalked a win at the Warrnambool Junior Open, taking out the under 18 section.
Leeson, 15, scored 106 and 88 off the stick at the two-day 36-hole event, which wrapped up on Tuesday.
“I have never been to this course – but I am sure I will be back,” she said.
Warrnambool and Port Fairy rising star Joanna Flaherty won the open crown.
Leeson, a Mount Clear College student, said she started slowly but found her rhythm as she adjusted to a new course.
“The first round was a little bit difficult because of the weather,” she said.
“We got absolutely soaked but I am really happy with my recovery for the second round.”
Flaherty, 20, shot 82 on both days.
She said the course played well but was a little soft under foot.
“I didn’t play too great but it’s all experience,” she said.
“I will just keep at it and keep practicing and see what happens.”
The Commonwealth Golf Club member, who plays off one, said she was unsure if she would compete in her home course event next year.
“If they keep it the same date I will qualify by a couple of days but to be honest I don’t know where I will be next year,” she said.
Only a handful of females competed in the Warrnambool events.
Flaherty, who travels to Melbourne at least once a month to play, encouraged more girls to get involved in the sport.
“With female golf in juniors and younger girls it’s kind of hard to get them interested,” she said.
“This is a great tournament. A lot of the younger kids get in and do the clinics here which brings more locals in.”
Flaherty said it was pleasing to see the likes of Leeson step up.
“It’d be good to see some more girls come along,” she said.
