The world renowned ensemble will perform pieces by Mozart and Beethoven in the Lighthouse Theatre on the night of October 13 before performing two school concerts at the theatre on October 14.
MSO managing director André Gremillet said the concerts were part of the MSO’s commitment to taking classical music to rural areas.
“Regional tours are important to the MSO’s vision and the orchestra is committed to ensuring orchestral music is accessible to all Victorians,” Gremillet said.
“This tour is an opportunity for communities to enjoy the wonderful sounds of the MSO in local spaces.”
The MSO concerts are part of a big second half of 2015 for the Lighthouse Theatre.
In November, the Russian Ballet will perform Sleeping Beauty and Swan Lake over two nights, Bell Shakespeare will stage Hamlet on October 4, and the Australian Chamber Orchestra will hold a Best Of The British concert on August 27.
Other highlights of the theatre season will include patriotic comedy Australia Day on August 20, the heartwarming musical Mother, Wife, Complicated Life on September 1, and Michael Veitch’s one-man war drama Flak on November 18.
The music program for the remainder of the year includes country singer-songwriter Graeme Connors on July 29, plus tribute shows to Roy Orbison & The Everly Brothers (August 29) and Johnny Cash (November 21).
The ever-popular Coodabeen Champions have also included Warrnambool on their 35th anniversary tour and will perform at the Lighthouse Theatre on September 15.
