The Melbourne Ballet Company performs at the Portland Arts Centre on Wednesday from 7.30pm, while the Australian Ballet is sending its regional touring arm The Dancers’ Company to perform at the Hamilton PAC on July 15 from 7.30pm.
Wednesday’s show in Portland is called Divenire and will see the Melbourne Ballet Company present a collection of works choreographed by Simon Hoy and internationally recognised dancemaker Tim Podesta.
“While acknowledging the beauty of classical ballet and works driven by a narrative or message, we also want to push the boundaries of the genre and show the wonderful strength and versatility that Melbourne Ballet Company is becoming known for,” the pair explained.
The Dancers Company will focus on the classics when it visits Hamilton next week, performing a triple bill of well known pieces.
The program includes Swan Lake’s third act, the French 19th century cornerstone of classical ballet Paquita, and the modern male-centric piece Rimbombo.
Dance fans will also be pleased to know Expression Dance Company will visit Warrnambool and Portland in October and are offering local dancers the opportunity to join them on stage.
The performance of Carmen Sweet will included up to 10 south-west female dancers, with auditions to be held at Melissa’s Dance Elements Studio in Warrnambool on July 18 at 11am.
