Library president Melissa Davey said there was 85 members, but at least 150 are required to make the library sustainable.
If no new members can be found, the service, which has been running for the past 36 years is at risk of closing its doors permanently.
“In the past we have had 150 members and we want to get back up to that number,” Ms Davey said.
“We are looking for more committee members as well. We have 11, but need another five or so in the next two months.”
The library was developed in 1979 to offer a low cost toy lending service.
It is run and staffed by volunteer parents.
There are more than 1000 toys available to rent, suitable for babies, toddlers and children.
“We cater for children from six months to eight years,” Ms Davey said.
“Big outdoor toys are popular as well as activity tables, train sets and pretend play.
“Children really look after the toys. They learn about giving and sharing.”
The toy library offer bikes, electronics, dolls, costumes, puzzles, sporting equipment, cars, construction and educational and musical toys for hire.
Ms Davey said the wide range of toys available meant parents and children could test out toys before committing to purchasing them at a shop.
“People can come and spend $100 over a year borrowing and use hundreds of dollars worth of toys,” she said.
“Borrowing can be a trial run before purchasing a toy for a birthday or Christmas.
“Sometimes children take a toy home and they may only play with it once or twice.
“Kids can get sick of toys so quickly.”
In 2001 the Warrnambool Toy Library moved to its present location behind the video shop in Henna Street.
Members are required to do duty three or four times a year.
Ms Davey said the toy library received no funding and made money through fundraising initiatives.
On Thursday evening the committee are hosting a movie night at the Capitol Cinema.
Magic Mike XXL will be screening and tickets are $20.
The film stars Channing Tatum, Andie MacDowell and Amber Heard.
The evening starts with supper at 7pm.
The toy library is open every Wednesday and Saturday from 9.30am to 11.30am.
