An art installation by Laurene Dietrich, Chelsey Reis and the Warrnambool community is providing a private sanctuary among the hustle and bustle of the festival.
Hundreds of plaited ropes are hanging from the gallery ceiling and festival director Merran Fyfe said the project was smaller before it came to Fun4Kids.
“We didn’t have enough plaits, so we collaborated with others to make it three-four times the size it was before,” Ms Fyfe said.
“Kids can come in and make their own plait. It linked in well with the Bamboo House Musique installation and it’s a real chill out space. We have tried to find balance across the festival.”
The adjacent Bamboo House Musique is an interactive art experience combining live plants, electronics and plenty of yarn.
It has proved to be popular, with children playing and making their own music and sounds on the WAG floor.
Hangin’ in the Gardens was funded by the Warrnambool City Council in 2013 as a community project for art4.
The idea was to collaborate with local individuals, groups and schools to make community-based artwork.
Ms Fyfe said feedback from visitors and locals had been positive so far.
“We’ve had some really good feedback from people saying they couldn’t get around the festival in only one day,” she said.
“People have committed to coming back.”
Ms Fyfe said today’s line up of performers was sure to be a hit.
“Cheer Geelong will be popular with the girls,” she said.
“Some of the top girls will be here. Pants Down Circus will also be good fun.”
Another highlight on today’s program is Bubblewrap and Boxes, a theatre show set in a room for lost mail.
The two main characters, a highly-strung mail room dweller who is intent on keeping his boxes in order, and a free-spirited new arrival, discover a strange parcel in the lost mail room.
Other festival favourites include the farm yard and the kids kitchen.
