DUAL Warrnambool Cup winner Hissing Sid has been retired after an amazing career. Hissing Sid won the 2009 and 2010 Warrnambool Cups before embarking on a successful career over the jumps. Trainer Symon Wilde said Hissing Sid would be remembered for his versatility and honesty.

"He was just such an honest performer. We've decided to retire Hissing Sid because of a couple of minor issues. He had been a great horse not only for his big group of owners but for our stable," Wilde said. "Hissing Sid showed his versatility winning two Warrnambool Cups and then three of his eight jumps starts. He won 10 races and filled the minor placings on 13 occasions, it's a pretty good record from 48 starts."
Ashley King, a part-owner of Hissing Sid said the 10-year-old had given great enjoyment to his owners.
"We (owners) had a great ride with Hissing Sid. There are not too many horses win their home town cup on two occasions," King said. "We're in the process of finding a good home for him. I would say Hissing Sid will take on eventing or hunting in the future."
Wilde's father Bill purchased Hissing Sid from the 2006 Inglis Yearling Sale for $25,000 before the galloper went on to win more than $560,000 in stakemoney.
Hissing Sid's tradition looks like continuing with the Wilde stable. Dusty Mamba, a full brother to Hissing Sid has had two unplaced runs. The stable is confident the four-year-old will develop into a handy galloper.
TOWER Hill training brothers Patrick and Paul McKenna had a big afternoon at Warrnambool on Saturday.
Patrick trained Flying Star to win a maiden plate over 1700 metres while Paul had the consistent Red Casino take out a restricted race over 1200 metres.
ORFORD trainer Anne McGrath hopes her decision to miss the $80,000 Mosstropper Steeplechase at Bendigo on Sunday with her promising jumper Mannertone will pay dividends when he runs in a $50,000 steepelchase at a Casterton on Sunday.
"I just weighed up the options and decided to head to Casterton on Sunday," McGrath said. "The Bendigo race had all the A grade steeplechasers. I understand we'll be carrying a big weight at Casterton but it looked an easier option."
From his five steeplechase starts Mannertone has two wins plus two minor placings to his credit.
JARROD McLean hopes there is more rain on the horizon for Princely Blaze after he won a restricted race over 1400 metres at Warrnambool on Saturday. McLean said Princely Blaze was not a super star but an honest performer who loved wet tracks.
