A DOMINANT second half steered Westerns to a South West District league grand final berth on Saturday.
The Kangaroos proved too strong for Tyrendarra in the preliminary final, 17.10 (112) to 11.7 (73).
The first half was a tight contest. Westerns had an eight-point lead at quartertime but it was reduced to one-point at half-time, with the Darras kicking four goals to three in the second term.
Westerns wrested control of the contest in the second half.
They kicked five unanswered goals in the third term and were 36 points up at the final change. Tyrendarra managed four goals to Westerns' five in the fourth quarter.
Brendan Edwards and Tim Annett were instrumental up forward for Westerns, combining for nine goals. For the Darras, Thomas Polkinghorne and Jason Meulendyks each kicked three goals.
Ben Cook was best for Westerns and Luke Thorpe tried hard to lift Tyrendarra over the line.
Westerns will play Heywood in the grand final.
Heywood, which left the Western Border league and joined the South West District league this season, upstaged Westerns in the second semi-final by 17 points.
The grand final will be played at Portland's Hanlon Park at 2.15pm on Saturday.
