Melbourne Vixens drop Wall

CAMPERDOWN netball export Sarah Wall is determined to extend her career at the elite level despite failing to win a contract with the Melbourne Vixens.

Wall, who had sought an extension to her two-year deal which expired after the Vixens’ grand final loss to the Northern Mystics, said she would resume pre-season training today as planned.

Wall, who was a special guest at the Warrnambool and District Football Netball League grand finals on Saturday, said she would take her place in a hand-picked side that would play a practice match against the national side, the Diamonds, on Friday.

“I can’t give up on my dream,” Wall said.

She said since being notified by Netball Victoria she would not be on the Vixens roster, she had received overwhelming support.

“It’s taken a bit of time to take it all in,” she said on Saturday.

“I think I’ve got a great support network and that’s why I am coping so well.”

Wall, who has overcome two knee reconstructions in her netball career, said she believed she had plenty to offer.

Wall said she would consider all options after consulting a number of people who believed her career was far from over.

The midcourter said she would pursue her own pre-season training program, albeit without the support of experts from the Vixens and the Victorian Institute of Sport.

She has been doing her own ball-work sessions with a friend.

In a heart-felt statement posted on her Jeanieboy website, Wall paid tribute to her teammates, Vixens staff, support staff and supporters.

“Playing elite netball is my dream and what I bounce out of bed everyday to do,” she said.

“Netball is in my soul and I have chased that dream ever since my first game at the age of seven. So I am not giving up now.”

Wall said she was committed to her Jeanieboy Dream Catchers Netball Academy for under 15 players, which she launched in Warrnambool a fortnight ago.

She is launching the program in Dandenong next month and Broome in November and will continue working on that during the off-season.

Wall had an injury-interrupted start to the Vixens 2012 campaign after a big pre-season and wasn’t given a lot of opportunity to press her claims when fit despite good form.
