Hawthorn star Jordan Lewis is set to coach one side and organisers are locking in other AFL players for the big day.

Leila Rose Foundation liaison officer Jacinta Roache said local businesses had jumped on board to support the August 16 game at Friendly Societies’ Park.

“As far as the game is concerned the committee got together and thought footy is so strong in the district and this is a great way to connect with the community,” she said.

“It has literally spread like wildfire. We’ve had a great deal of interest.”

Mrs Roache said Build In Warrnambool was the major sponsor for the game and St John of God Hospital and Baker’s Delight were each sponsoring a team.

She said radio personalities Matt Monk and Matty Stewart were busy putting together two all-star teams with former AFL player Bernie Harris and Hampden league hall of fame member Brendan Dobson both putting their hands up.

“The boys are stirring up trouble,” she said.

“It’s a great cause that people can’t say no to.

“I’ve heard a few fellas are already out training. We might be concerned with their form but not their enthusiasm.”

Mrs Roache said there would be half-time entertainment with a presentation and awards post match.

She said the Leila Rose Foundation was only young but the community recognised the importance of the work it does.

“As far as we know it’s the only foundation that supports families of children suffering rare cancer,” she said.

To date the foundation has supported 18 families with $395,000 raised. It was established in memory of Leila Rose Chow who died at 21 months from a rare cancerous rhabdoid tumour.

Build In Warrnambool’s Nat Stevens said she couldn’t think of a better cause than the Leila Rose Foundation and it was an honour to support.
