Dunkeld businessman Allan Myers has an estimated wealth of $648 million, placing him at 76th position on the Business Review Weekly’s (BRW) top 200 list.
The business magazine claimed Mr Myers’ wealth had declined over the past 12 months in line with the share price drop of the Polish brewer Grupa Zywiec he and business partner John Higgins invested in back in 1990.
“The canny investment forms the backbone of Myers’ investments, which extend to property interests and rural holdings in both his Victorian country home town of Dunkeld and the Tipperary cattle station in the Northern Territory,” BRW stated.
“Known as Australia’s most prominent barrister, Myers sold another slice of Tipperary in April when he offloaded the Douglas station.”
Radio proprietor Geoff Handbury was not included in the BRW 2015 rich list, but his family gained a mention in another magazine countdown last year.
The business magazine included the Handburys’ collectively in its BRW 2014 rich families list at 31st place with combined wealth of $370 million.
Midfield International boss Colin McKenna was not included in this year’s BRW Rich List.
Mining magnate Gina Rinehart still holds the title of wealthiest Australian, according to BRW, with a largesse of more than $14 billion. Cardboard magnate Anthony Pratt and family were in second place with $10.7 billion and property magnate Harry Triguboff in third place with $10.2 billion.
While former Nine Network owner Kerry Packer long held the title of Australia’s richest man, his son Jamie has been relegated to seventh position on the 2015 edition.
