ERRANT drivers coughed up more than half a million dollars in fines last year from Warrnambool’s only fixed speed and red light camera.

More than $660,000 in fines were issued from the camera system at the Raglan Parade and Mahoneys Road intersection.
January to March proved to be the highest grossing period raking in $290,000 from 1321 fines issued.
From October to December last year 680 fines totalling $169,000 were dished out and from April to June 572 fines were issued. July to September was the quietest period with 308 fines issued totalling $73,000.
But the state government data shows people are getting the message. The total fines were well down on the more than $1 million issued from January to December 2013.
Those caught speeding by less than 10km/h over the 70km/h speed zone face a $185 fine and a loss of one demerit point. Drivers caught 10-24km/h over the speed limit receive a $295 fine and lose three demerit points.
Those clocked doing 25-29km/h can expect a $406 fine, the loss of four demerit points and one-month automatic licence suspension.
