In September last year Jason Leonard Ryan, 34, of Henry’s Sawmill Road, was jailed for 12 months with six months to be served before being eligible for parole.
Warrnambool police officer Senior Constable Greg Kew said Ryan and the victim had been in a turbulent relationship for nine years which had resulted in numerous domestic violence reports to police.
On June 24 last year Ryan punched his partner to an eye during an argument and a week later there was another incident in which Ryan deliberately turned off his partner’s alarm which she had set to go to work — something he had done in the past.
He yelled abuse at her while she was trying to get their children ready for kindergarten and school, then spat at her, choked her and threw a kettle of hot water, causing two splash burns to her arm.
Ryan also sent 75 text messages and tried to ring his partner 11 times in 24 hours, starting on August 31, in breach of an intervention order.
Yesterday, he pleaded guilty to another 11 counts of breaching intervention orders when he sent letters from Fulham Prison in Sale to the woman between September and November last year.
He told the woman he loved and missed her, but blamed her for his behaviour and for splitting up their family.
Magistrate John Lesser said Ryan had a shocking history of domestic violence and a poor record of complying with court imposed orders. Ryan was jailed for four months, with three months added to his existing sentence.
