Detective Senior Constable Nick De Ridder, of the Warrnambool police crime investigation unit, told a bail justice in an out-of-session hearing late yesterday that the 27-year-old man went to a west Warrnambool home on Monday night.
He lay in wait for his ex-girlfriend who arrived home about 9.30pm and was confronted by the man who was armed with a knife.
The bail justice was told the woman fought off the man and suffered cuts to her hands which required medical attention.
The man then fled the house before police arrived.
Police alleged that the woman arrived home while she was on her phone to her mother who overheard the incident.
The man was arrested Tuesday afternoon after he handed himself in to police and he was remanded in custody overnight by the bail justice to appear in the Warrnambool Magistrates Court this morning.
He has been charged with aggravated burglary.
