Competitors from Geelong to Portland and up to Horsham, Ballarat and Ararat will chase series points on the technical Lake Gillear track on Sunday.
SCMC president Alan Primmer said the club was pleased with entry numbers, which were about par compared with previous years.
“We usually get about 200 entries as a round figure,” he said.
“At the end of the series, the best riders in each class win awards.
“It’s a step-up from club events and a step under the Victorian titles.
“In saying that, in the Victorian titles you usually race against some of the same riders you race against in the region series.
“It’s all come together well.
“We had a good two-day open in January and next year we’ll look at having another Vic titles round.”
Primmer credited SCMC volunteer Roger Laycock for his work preparing the track — a task made more difficult by rain earlier in the week.
“He spends a lot of hours out there doing track maintenance, preparing the track. He’ll have it spick and span on Saturday,” Primmer said.
“He’ll make the call on Saturday whether we rip it up or leave it hard packed. If it rains and it’s hard packed, the water runs off it.”
Colac rider Ray Cole is SCMC’s sole rider in the top class, 450cc A grade, while there are five home-club hopes in 450cc B grade.
Cole is also in 250cc A grade.
Almost half of 250cc B grade features SCMC riders. The club is also well represented in 250cc C grade.
Steve Mora and Michael Pickert headline the over 45 ranks, while Fleur Barling is a leading hope in the clubwoman class.
The Western Region Motocross Series started with rounds at Colac on March 1 and Ballarat on April 19.
Other rounds are at Horsham (July 12), Ararat (September 6) and Portland (October 10-11).
