John Maher has spoken about road trauma and safety to thousands of school students across Victoria.
JOHN Maher will deliver a powerful first-hand account of the impact of road fatalities in Warrnambool on Monday, September 17.
Mr Maher lost his 18-year-old daughter Carmen when she was killed in a car crash near Bendigo in 1995.
Carmen, who had her licence for about three months, was killed when her car hit a tree after she fell asleep at the wheel.
It happened only 30 months after Mr Maher was seriously injured in a car crash.
In that accident, the driver of the other vehicle, a young woman who had her licence for only 23 days, lost control and was killed when she crashed into Mr Maher’s stationary vehicle.
In his raw and confronting talk that is sure to engage teenagers dealing with the challenge of driving, Mr Maher gives a blow-by-blow account of his family and Carmen’s friends ongoing battle to deal with Carmen’s death.
Mr Maher has since spoken to thousands of school students across Victoria.
He will give the free, one-hour talk to the public at 7.30pm on September 17 at the Lady Bay Resort.
