About 50 belly dancers are expected to take part in the three-day event at Southcombe Lodge organised by the Meenkeel Gypsies, the performance arm of Koroit Belly Dance.
Director and teacher Tracey Wright said it was the fourth belly dancing camp the group had hosted and this year it would welcome dancers from across the state and an interstate guest for a weekend of dance and pampering.
“It’s the only event of its kind in Victoria,” she said.
“There is a real feminine energy to belly dancing and the camp has that too.
“It’s a wonderful way of making friends. It’s physical exercise as well and a chance to dress up.”
The camp will involve workshops in a variety of belly dance styles, yoga and meditation sessions and some beauty therapy.
“We welcome dancers from all levels to be pampered, learn new dance and share in the colour, joy and friendship that the dance style brings into their lives,” Ms Wright said.
“A highlight will be the halfa on Saturday night. It’s the performance night where everyone has a chance to get up and dance in front of everyone if they want to.
“We’re also really lucky to have an interstate teacher, Vonika, coming this year. She’s from Sydney and is an expert in tribal fusion style.”
“The troupe regularly performs at the Greek nights at Koroit’s Izzy’s Bar & Grill and love getting along to entertain at many private events and parties,” Ms Wright said.
The belly dancing camp will begin next Friday and runs until Sunday.
