Maggie Dwyer, of Warrnambool Area Safety Health Group, said spotting asbestos could be tricky and that the seminar could be useful “for any interested tradies and home renovators who may need further assistance with identifying this hidden killer”.
“Sometimes it is difficult to identify — it can come in differing colours and forms,” Ms Dwyer said.
“It can be found in many parts of a dwelling and sometimes in old car brakes.
“Ceilings, floor tiles, doors, switchboards and roof tiles can be likely places to look in older buildings.
“Recently in a Warrnambool workplace, following … an asbestos clean-up, more asbestos was discovered when a ceiling cover was peeled back.
“It left unsuspecting workers at risk.
Tomorrow’s seminar is being held at South West TAFE from 3pm in Building B, on the third floor.
