The Saints scored an 80-point win over neighbouring rival Port Fairy at Gardens Oval on Saturday as they improved their record to three wins and a loss this season.
While the 17.12 (114) to 5.4 (34) result made good reading for the Saints, their injured list does not.
Veteran Joe McLaren failed to finish the match after suffering an elbow injury that saw him taken to hospital for X-rays. Assistant coach Simon O’Keefe was a late withdrawal after aggravating an ankle injury he sustained in round one in his comeback last week.
Coach Adam Dowie said O’Keefe would miss Saturday’s match against South Warrnambool while the extent of McLaren’s injury would not be known until today or tomorrow.
They are set to join star forward Sam Dobson (knee) and versatile running player Jayden Whitehead (hamstring) on the sidelines.
Dowie was pleased with his side’s third consecutive win.
“It was probably our best four-quarter performance of the season,” he said.
“We started really well. Our intent, you could see we were on in the first five minutes.”
Teenager midfielder James Gow was again impressive, kicking three goals.
Port Fairy coach Brett Evans said the Seagulls were disappointing.
“It wasn’t good at all,” he said.
“I thought our start, we couldn’t have made more mistakes. But in saying that they were a very, very good side, by far the best we’ve come up against.
“They have such an even spread through the group. In a way it was good to see how far away we are.”
Evans said the Seagulls had to continue working hard on the track.
“We have to stay pretty positive. The way I see it, if you take out those top two sides (Warrnambool and Koroit), every game is very winnable.”
The Seagulls will this week assess Michael Lambevski who suffered an ankle injury
