The four-year-old gelding, previously at the Chris Waller stables, had three starts for Weir since March before breaking through over 1700 metres yesterday.
He defeated Yulong Baby ($2.80 favourite), which enjoyed cover throughout behind the speed, by a neck. Clangstars Ace ($8) was third.
It was the fourth win of the carnival for Weir, while owners Australian Thoroughbred Bloodstock were celebrating a second success.
“At the top of the straight he looked like he was travelling real well but he’s got a bit of fitness to come so he was walking a bit late,” Weir said.
“He needs to get up to 2000 (metres) now. He just needed one more at the shorter trip before we went to 2000.”
Weir said he wasn’t worried when Falago, with Brad Rawiller aboard, had to come three wide without cover at the top of the straight.
