Early morning house fire claims life

One person has been killed in a house fire in Melbourne's north early this morning.

Firefighters were called to the single-storey home in Dallas Drive in Dallas about 5.40am and found the home ablaze.

A Metropolitan Fire Brigade spokesman said three fire crews extinguished the fire within minutes, however when they searched the property they discovered a body.

It was unclear whether the victim was male or female, or how old the person was.

"The fire was contained to the rear of single-storey house," the MFB spokesman said.

"After doing a room search, they found one deceased person at the address."

He said the MFB's fire investigation unit was at the scene and was yet to determine the cause of the blaze.

Police are also at the scene.
