Red-hot $1.30 favourite Shared Equity missed the start from box one and although she pushed up on the rail to join early leader Cosmic Lilly (14.90), she never took over in front.
When the leaders jammed up just after the first turn, Nunya Tron ($50.10) was cutting loose down the middle of the track and gained a clear passage to find the front and shoot away.
Shared Equity gave chase with Dewana Result ($8.10) but they didn’t get close to running down the roughie of the field.
Nunya Tron won by 1½ lengths from Dewana Result, with Shared Equity third.
Trainer Simon Barker was emotional after the win.
“I can’t believe I’ve just done this,” he said while giving his black 36kg speedster a hug.
“He was never a 66-1 pop. I always thought he was a chance,” he said.
Barker said the connections of Nunya Tron weren’t satisfied with just the $75,000 prizemoney and backed their kennel star.
Nunya Tron was lucky to make the final after being a runner-up in a heat and finishing second in a semi-final behind Shared Equilty beaten 10 lengths.
